“Adapted” v “adaptable”

Thanks to Frank Forencich for his post Putting the physical back into physical education and making the distinction between “adapted” and “adaptable” in regards to fitness training. He says:

“Those who train exclusively in a single sport, movement style or discipline simply dig their neurological ruts deeper and deeper; they become adapted to a specific challenge. But for true athleticism and holistic health, more is needed – the ability to move across challenges and disciplines, always adjusting and adaptable.”

This for us is the benefit of training in nature – the terrain is always changing, always presenting new challenges. For Wild Ones who’ve done the 5km mida run in Kenya… you will know it’s not the same as running 5km on the road! But it’s worth it for the banana whip at the end, right?
